Mosaic Workshops by Jane du Rand

The workshops have proven to be extremely popular and are times not to be missed!
OPTION 1: The full week course will run on each of the days from 08h30 to 16h30.
All materials and tools will be provided.
A morning and afternoon tea and snack will be provided. Please bring your own lunch.
During this 5 day course you will learn to do a commission from a client.
You will work in a team on the project and will take the project right from the briefing stage through to the installation on the site, which will be an area within the Studio grounds. The project will remain installed in the studio grounds after completion of the course.
DAY 1: Stage 1: You will receive the brief from the “client” and will be lead through an appropriate design response. You will then draw up a design which will be suitable for a mosaic. Stage 2: You will cover the costing and pricing of the mosaic design as well as the sourcing of the materials, calculating the quantities needed and planning the time frames required.
DAY 2: Stage 3: This stage covers choosing the tiles and other materials for the mosaic project to suit the design, the manufacturing of ceramic pieces, making of moulds, working with clay, firing and glazing – chooses appropriate glazes. Stage 4: This covers the setting out of the mosaic project in the studio, enlarging the design and choosing the appropriate method for the installation.
DAY 3, 4 & 5: Stage 5: During this stage you will be making the mosaic. You will cover the cutting and laying of the tiles, the use of glues and netting. Transferring the prepared mosaic to the “site”. Stage 6: Installation of the mosaic project on “site”. Grouting: choosing grout colours, grouting techniques, cleaning and finishing.
This course is for those who wish to pursue the art of mosaic as a career or as an extra income or for those who wish to tackle their own larger projects at home.
Cost: R3575.00 (ZAR) per person for the week.

The single day course runs from 08h30 to 16h30.
All materials and tools will be provided.

During the day course you will complete a mosaic on a board that you will be able to take home with you.
You will learn to choose/draw a suitable design on the board. Making the mosaic. Cutting and laying the tiles. Use of glues. Grouting: choosing grout colours, grouting techniques, cleaning and finishing.
This course is for those who wish to pursue the art of mosaic as a hobby.
Cost: R715.00 (ZAR) per person per day.
